It's important that your business understands the locals, gives back to the locals and is perceived positively by the locals.
Here are some tips to achieve this...
o Work with your neighbouring businesses
Check out the local businesses in your area you don’t compete with and see if there is an opportunity to promote each other. Something as simple as putting up a poster in their store can increase your brand awareness. Or you could get more creative and offer a special discount or promotion to their customers, and vice versa.
 | o Show your community spirit Get involved in, and support the local community. Sponsorship is a great way to get involved. By
supporting a local sporting team or club you let the community know that you
care. And you’re increasing the awareness of your brand.

o Be charitable
Do your research and compile a list of local charities you believe are in-line with your business beliefs and goals. Don’t make the decision alone. By giving your staff a voice their support for the cause will become more genuine. And your customers WILL notice this.
o Create a staff volunteer day
This is a great way to show your business’ active philanthropic side, with the added benefit of creating a team environment among your staff. Again, do your research, and find those that are a good fit. Giving your staff the final decision will break down any barriers they may have in participating. Don’t forget to provide incentives to get them excited. Make sure all the managers and yourself are present - lead by example!
